privacy, in plain language

this is the whole policy. it is short because we collect very little.

what we collect

when you finish the terminal on the front page, we save what you typed: your first name, your tiktok handle, what you’re building, a link to it if you gave one, your state if you chose to say, where you’re starting from, and your email. we also note the time and whether you came from the board. that’s the list.

your first name is also kept in your own browser, so the terminal can say hi next time. that never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data removes it.

what it’s for

your email gets one welcome note straight away. lessons only start if you tap the confirm button in it, so an address that never confirmed never hears from us again. every email has an unsubscribe link. we don’t sell it, rent it, or hand it to anyone.

if you said yes to the builders board, your tiktok handle, what you’re building, your link, and your state go on a public page once we’ve approved it by hand. your email never does.

what we don’t do

no ad trackers. no analytics scripts following you around. the site talks to three outside services: google fonts for the typefaces; supabase, the database, which receives your answers when you press enter on your email and sends the board’s public cards to the board page and, if you’ve joined, the front page; and resend, which delivers the welcome email and any lessons we send. like any web request, they see the address your device connects from.

where it lives

in a database we run on supabase. the front page hands your answers to a small program that checks them, slows down anyone sending too many, and saves them. the page itself cannot read anything back, which is on purpose: the public code of this site can’t see the list. we also keep a scrambled version of the connecting address for a day, only to stop floods; it can’t be turned back into you.

one more small thing: when the front page opens and at each step you reach in the terminal, the page sends a one-word note of the step (“whoami”, “ls”, “email”) and the time. that’s the whole record. no name, no email, nothing that ties it to you. it exists so i can see where people get stuck and fix that step.

change or remove anything

email hello@cuteandcoded.com from the address you signed up with and say what you want changed or deleted. it gets done by a person, usually within a few days.
